The social media post by Women's Health that sent me into a frenzy

I recently saw this post shared by Women Health Magazine on instagram which sent me into a frenzy.

It’s posts like these that I have so many clients confused about how to eat healthy or lose weight. Nothing grinds my gears more than seeing things like this.

Focusing on calories especially from packaged foods full of artificial ingredients rather than quality DOES NOT support your health or weight loss goals.

For too long the wrong message has been conveyed to people on losing weight by focusing on quantity ie calories rather than the quality of your food. The issue is that not all food is created equally. The fat from an avocado DOES NOT function the same as the fat from a Twirl chocolate bar.

Depriving your body of QUALITY FOODS means you deprive it of important nutrients necessary for optimal function. Food is not just medicine, it is information. Information for each and every cell to carry out its function in the body.

The human body is a highly complex interconnected system and we need to support this system by nourishing it with real food. Processed and packaged foods contains information our body does not understand which in effect causes your hormones to go out of whack, overloads your liver, affects digestion and drives food intolerances, promotes the growth of bad bacteria, triggers anxiety and depression and this in turn causes weight gain in the long run. Not to mention a whole host of other health issues.

It’s time we shift the focus from QUANTITY to QUALITY

It’s a real shame to see Women Health Australia promote incorrect and misleading information especially when they have such a large voice. Yes portions matter and having the occasional treat won’t kill you but delivering the message that losing weight by eating processed foods that contain fewer calories is wrong and is not helping the obesity epidemic we are faced with today.
